    • Abstract:
A definition of the term "severe combined immunodeficiency or SCID" is presented. It refers to a set of primary immunodeficiency diseases in humans characterized by profoundly impaired cell-mediated and humoral immunity. More than 50% of SCID cases are X-linked SCID, which manifests complete or profound defect of T cells and natural killer cells, but carry normal or slightly increased numbers of B cells.
