    • Abstract:
This article discusses the political idea of the term Latino in the U.S. The use of the term has exploded into a racial, political and ethnic category. The passions unleashed by this term have been displayed in the media following demonstrations over possible new legislation over immigration. Attacks on immigrants in the country have brought a wave of racial comments about Mexicans and Latinos. The important point is that the claim for pure versus mixed ancestry is eminently socio-historical given the political climate of the times. The process of compression of colonial identity against the indigenous one has also been a factor that caused this identity crisis.
