- Abstract:
The article looks at cervical damage caused by martial art techniques and focuses on the case of discoligamental instability of the lower cervical spine during a headlock-techique in the traditional Japanese martial art jujitsu. According to the authors, all martial arts athletes should be trained on the injuries caused by certain techniques. Surgery is needed to stabilize cervical discoligamental disruptures. Several photographs are presented, including a CT scan and an MRI of an athlete with cervical instability.
