  The article discusses the controversy regarding opening airports in Cyprus. According to European Union (EU) officials, the country, which is half-Turkish, must open its ports if Turkey wishes to obtain EU membership. The relationship between Turkey and Europe has always been stiff, mostly due to its strategic geographic location. Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been an effective reformer in an effort to boost the country's EU membership hopes.
