    • Abstract:
This article focuses on the route of Carthaginian general Hannibal Barca through the Alps Mountain range of France. In 218 B.C, Hannibal marched some 25,000 men, 37 elephants, and scores of pack animals over a narrow pass in the mountain range. Stanford University archaeologist Patrick Hunt is retracing what he believes is Hannibal's route through the Col de Clapier Pass. Eckard College military historian John Prevas, who led an expedition of his own to the Alps, believes that Hannibal crossed the mountains at another one of the highest passes in the southern French Alps, the Traversette.
