    • Abstract:
The article discusses the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL) and the decline in Biblical scholarship. The author, who is one of the SBL's 6,000 members, questions why Biblical scholarship has not benefitted from what he calls a revival in religious faith in the U.S. due in large part to the rise in the country's Christian conservatism. He argues that it would behoove the SBL to make alterations to the way it conducts itself as an academic society and to promote new avenues for Biblical scholarship.
