      The article discusses the K Street scandal involving political lobbyist Jack Abramoff who pleaded guilty of tax evasion fraud and conspiracy in January 2006. The federal probe and a wide-ranging investigation by the Senate Indian Affairs Committee began in early 2004 after several tribes asserted that Abramoff had bilked them out of millions of dollars when he was their lobbyist. Abramoff conned the tribes into paying tens of millions to him and his secret partner Michael Scanlon, a public-relations professional.
