- Abstract:
The article focuses on the development of sustainable housing in Australia. Increasing cost of housing has given rise to an increased level of homelessness among people. Consequently, the Australian cities are becoming socially unsustainable. People in Victoria are paying more than 30% of their income as housing cost, specially for rent and mortgages. Price of houses are also increasing in very fast pace, so poor people are unable to afford house in inner cities. Public and community housing provide houses at less cost than the private rental sector. The Australian federal government is giving tax subsidies to encourage investors to invest in private rental housing.
