- Abstract:
The article states that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of a drug to treat wet macular degeneration, an eye disease caused by a leak of fluid from blood vessels into the macula of the eye. Patients with wet macular degeneration lose visual acuity. The drug, called ranibizumab, inhibits a protein essential to blood vessel growth and reverses wet macular degeneration in many patients.
