- Abstract:
This article explores Thomas Hardy's "The Mayor of Casterbridge." In today's society, there is often discussion about globalization and its detriments, but others argue that globalization is not a modern construction. But in studying global policies, there has been a growth in recognizing what it means to be local. Hardy's novel emphasizes this, and through it, Hardy offers his criticism of England trading with North America.
