This articles states that a research by former high school math teacher Paige Allison can help students who slide down in their seats when they are asked a quesion, trying to be invisible. Allison found that when teachers use handheld computers running a Microsoft Excel program that randomly chooses names, students know everyone's fair game, and they become more engaged in lessons. Plus, teachers were more likely to call on an equal number of girls, boys, and minorities.
