    • Abstract:
The article traces the history and development of the Immigration and Ethnic History Society (IEHS) which has promoted the study of international migration and immigrant and ethnic history in the U.S. The IEHS was organized in 1965 as the Immigration History Group (IHG). When the IHG was changed into the Immigration History Society (IHS) on April 6, 1972, it started with an administrative structure befitting a professional body. The modification of the IHS into the IEHS recognized the evolving nature of migration studies.
