This article presents information on the growing interests of American historians in the rural history of the United States. A New Rural History has begun to grab attention in American scholarship. The New Rural History attempts to explore the lives of general peasants in the 19th century. A bunch of few historians formed a Rural History Network in 1978 within the Social Science History Association to discuss the new history.
