      The article focuses on development of academic programs in Japan to teach manga, or the art of drawing for comic books. The article discusses programs at Kyoto Seika University, Takarazuka University of Art and Design, and the University of Tokyo. Manga is the word for comic book in Japanese. Comic books are widely popular in Japan and also have been one of Japan's most successful pop-culture exports. Japanese anime is popular in the United States and Europe. The article discusses the possibility that the programs could enroll American students in the future.
