    • Abstract:
In the United States, Industrial Relations opened a new perspective on labor and labor relations research, deeply inspired by the German historical school. The social scientists interested in the Industrial Relations chose an institutionalist approach. It allowed them to integrate the notions of conflicts, rules or national cultures in their analysis, which the classical and neo-classical economic paradigms were unable to achieve. Most noteworthy in this regard is their frequent use of historical data. But, as demonstrated by the works of J. R. Commons, S. Perlman and J. T. Dunlop, the usage of historical material can vary widely from one author to another. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
