    • Abstract:
The article features the academic scientists as independent, important people who are influential in public policymaking. Since World War II scientists have played an important part in shaping national policies both in the civilian and military sectors of the federal government. It is assumed that these people are uniquely independent as compared to someone from private industry or from some government agency where there are clearly recognized vested interests to be served. Most top science advisors to the federal government are no strangers to the corporate boardroom. It is concluded in the article that a majority of the elite academic science advisers in Washington have been captured by the large corporations.
