      The article provides an overview of the political and social trends in United States as of March 1975. The decline of racial politics and the sublimation of sexual politics is the first major transformation that distinguishes the 1970s from the 1960s. Another central reality of the 1970s is the return of achievement politics or getting ahead politics. A progressive relationship between work and leisure was also witnessed in the decade, with concern not so much focus on a 32 hour week as it is on the maximization of leisure life or the private life. Moreover, the pressure on civilian forms of political rule has expanded not only in Western Europe but also in U.S.
