Background information on American engineer and former National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronaut Dr. Bonnie Dunbar is presented. NASA hired her as a flight controller in 1978, but she did not become an astronaut until 1981. She is a veteran of five space shuttle launches, including the last successful flight of the Space Shuttle Challenger. Dunbar retired from NASA in 2005 to become the president and CEO of the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington. Information on Dunbar's early life and education is reviewed.
