Background information on American engineer and former National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronaut Dr. Bonnie Dunbar is presented. NASA hired her as a flight controller in 1978, but she did not become an astronaut until 1981. She is a veteran of five space shuttle launches, including the last successful flight of the Space Shuttle Challenger.
