- Abstract:
The article discusses the way of education in the islands of the Pacific. During Spanish rule in Mariana Islands in 1669 to 1769, all religious and educational affairs were conducted. During the German period, religious and elementary secular education on Rota and Tinian were offered in church schools maintained by the Capuchins. During Japanese rule in islands of Micronesia, natives of the islands received free and compulsory education in schools administered and taught by Japanese. School program operated by the Japanese was described as rigid, authoritarian and compartmentalized.
