      The article looks at the American White Pelican. Nearly all American white pelicans migrate between nesting areas in the Great Plains and Great Basin and wintering grounds on the Gulf Coast, in California, and in Mexico. In the middle of the U.S. pelicans gather together and follow the large rivers such as the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. The article discusses the problem of West Nile virus, efforts to protect pelicans, and the brown pelican.
