      The article reports on the settlement reached between Research In Motion (RIM), the manufacturer of the BlackBerry personal digital assistant, and NTP, the firm that holds several patents that RIM allegedly infringed upon. The lawsuit centered around the exact reach of the NTP patents. RIM specifically argued that the patents and some or all of the claims made by NTP were not novel enough to be considered patentable. A U.S. federal court found that the BlackBerry infringed on NTP patent claims and awarded damages to NTP.
