    • Abstract:
The article focuses on efforts to reduce poverty in Africa. The United Nations' Millennium Development Goals aim to cut the number of people living on $1 or less per day in half by 2015. Good news is presented along with the bad in a World Bank-IMF report, including a reduction in child deaths in Burkina Faso and Mozambique, as well as a decline in HIV/AIDS infection rates in such high-prevalence countries as Uganda and Zimbabwe. Benefits and objections to seven reforms recommended by the Millennium Development Project are discussed.
