    • Abstract:
The article comments on the U.S. National Park Service's slaughter of more than 900 bison at Yellowstone Park during the winter of 2005 ostensibly because of the risks they posed to cattle grazing on adjacent lands. Bison and many other wild animals are susceptible to brucellosis. The issue of Yellowstone bison and brucellosis have been debated for over two decades. The government's Interagency Buffalo Management Plan has done little to put the issue to rest. Its provision for solving the spread of the disease is narrow. It is the author's view that Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer's acknowledgement of the problem is a welcome development. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
