    • Abstract:
In this article the author discusses the need for reform in Islam so as to offset breakdowns in Muslim teachings in education, science, democratization and respect for human rights. The author argues that Islam has relied too heavily on strict interpretation of its sacred texts. The religion needs to be exposed to more worldly ideas and disciplines which will allow for reform that is in keeping with Islamic principles while engaged with the ideas of the present day.
