    • Abstract:
The article looks at the development of modern Hebrew literature in the U.S. It cites that American Jewish poets have turned to an idea of Hebrew as a kind of touchstone of Jewish authenticity and identity. The emergence of Hebrew poets such as Robert Whitehill can be attributed to the American tradition of self-education and self-training. The creation of Hebrew-language programs at colleges and universities and establishment of organizations such as the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture are significant to Jewish literature.
