High levels of female sexual abuse means that many survivors will utilise maternity services. This brief paper examines the physical and emotional difficulties experienced by sexual abuse survivors during pregnancy. A literature review was implemented to avoid sexual abuse survivors reliving past abuse through interview and themes were identified and analysed. Loss of control during pregnancy may present problems for sexual abuse survivors and they may have difficulty trusting staff. All women should be asked about a sexual abuse history. Documentation of disclosure must be with the woman's consent. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
