The article details the rebirth of Chilean cinema after nearly two decades of censorship. After the coup d'etat of 1973 many of Chile's foremost directors went into exile, while those who stayed had to deal with intensive government restriction. Since the early 1990s, Chile's film industry has begun to revive. The article illustrates some notable success, and examines the challenges to be overcome.
