- Abstract:
Background information on the mathematician Leonardo of Pisa, better known as Fibonacci, is presented. The author review how Fibonacci helped replace the Roman numeral system with the base 10, or Arabic system. He was a brilliant problem solver in the fields of algebra and number theory during a time when science and the arts were just beginning to be reintroduced in the West. In modern times, his name is most often associated with a number series whose ratios approximate the "golden ratio." Information on Fibonacci's early life and education is reviewed.
