Tanzanians elect local government officials

By BBC Monitoring Tanzanians have turned up at polling stations across the country to elect local government officials who will serve for the next five years in a poll described as a crucial test of its democracy, privately-owned Mwananchi website reported on 27 November.   They are electing village, street and ward chairpersons and local council members following a seven-day campaign period that ended on 26 November.  President Samia Suluhu Hassan described the election as an opportunity for citizens to contribute to the country's growth by electing qualified leaders.
