The article reflects on the disclosure by Detroit Auxiliary Bishop Thomas Gumbleton and the chasm between abuse survivors and Bishops. His duty was to think about the children and the victims who followed the Bishop's personal experience. He kept to himself the knowledge about a fellow priest who was a sexual predator. His actions as a survivor of clergy abuse is at odds with what survivors and advocates believe should have been done and should be done. He should not shy away from naming the criminal and acknowledge the harm done by years of nondisclosure, and highlight the lifelong impact of being betrayed by a mentor.
