    • Abstract:
This article presents a case report of digitalis intoxication and its connection between atrial fibrillation (AF) treatment and major depression/anxiety disorders. The combination of treatment with digoxin for a patient suffering from AF, and treatment with paroxetine with major depressive disorder, led to suspected digitalis intoxication. After discontinuing both medications, doctors noticed a reduction in side effects such as visual hallucinations and loss of appetite, however also noticed an onset of bradycardia. Because these side-effects are concurrent with selective-serotonin uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) it was deduced that some SSRIs may have the risk of inducing digitalis intoxication in comorbid patients.
