    • Abstract:
The article presents a study on the viability of green roofs on reducing storm water overflow. The New York City, N.Y. Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) engaged the services of Earth Pledge to develop a storm water modeling system to determine the effectiveness of green roofs at minimizing storm water runoff and reduce volumes of combined sewer overflow (CSO). Green roofs incorporate a waterproof membrane topped with lightweight growing medium and vegetation. They are used to address various environmental problems such as the Urban Heat Island Effect, storm water runoff abatement, reduce cooling requirements of buildings and promote biodiversity.
