    • Abstract:
The article reports on the plan of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission to build a two-mile long linear accelerator as a national research facility at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. The development of the accelerator will cost about 18 million dollars wherein construction will take about six years. It will occupy two parallel tunnels, in which one will house the operating equipment and the other will hold the evacuated tube through which the electrons will be propelled in a straight line by a traveling radio-frequency wave.
