- Abstract:
The article chronicles the early years of Nancy Reagan, the fortieth First Lady of the United States. Her husband, former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, died in 2004. She was born Anne Francis Robbins in 1921 in New York City. After her parents' divorce, her mother married Dr. Loyal Davis, who adopted her. Davis earned a degree in dramatic arts from Smith College. She began her acting career, appearing first on Broadway, then moving to Hollywood, where she made eleven films for Metro Goldwyn Mayer. Davis married Ronald Reagan, who was divorced from actress Jane Wyman, in 1952. Reagan was the Republican governor of California from 1967 to 1975.
