    • Abstract:
In this article the author discusses the lack of a unified policy to assist those in poverty in the United States and around the globe. He points out the lack of interest in the plight of the poor, using the unassisted victims of Hurricane Katrina as an illustration of his point. The famine in Niger is discussed. He cites the report "Investing in Development" released by the United Nations Millennium Project and the article by Harvard historian Alexander Keyssar "Reminders of Poverty, Soon Forgotten" published in the "Chronicle of Higher Education."
