      The article focuses on the impact of blogging on traditional mass media. Blogs will continue to compete with more-traditional news sources online well beyond 2006, says Shawn McIntosh, a lecturer in communications at Columbia University. Blogs grew in popularity through their coverage of the 2004 U.S. presidential election and the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster. That popularity has fueled a feud between bloggers and professional journalists. Many journalists complain that blogs are not constrained by professional standards of fairness and balance.
