    • Abstract:
This article presents news briefs related to socio-political issues in several countries. High rates of unemployment are the primary cause of growing poverty in the African continent, according to the report titled "Economic Report on Africa 2005: Meeting the Challenges of Unemployment and Poverty," released by the United Nations. In a decision announced this week, the International Court of Justice found Uganda guilty of plundering the natural resources of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The court further ruled that Uganda was responsible for human rights abuses when it sent its troops there in 1998. The case took five years to decide. The 16-judge panel ruled that Ugandan troops had committed acts of torture and killing against Congolese civilians, trained child soldiers and incited ethnic conflict. .
