    • Abstract:
The article reports that the University of Maryland has been awarded a $2.1 million grant by the U.S. Department of Defense to develop a prototype Web-based interactive supply chain system for the military. The 12-month project's objective supplies back into battle as soon as possible and at a lower cost. According to Kenneth Gabriel, senior research scholar at the University of Maryland Center for Public Policy and Private Enterprise, it is a technical display to improve the maintenance and preparedness of a very important aircraft, the F/A-18 Navy fighter jet. Many technologies will be integrated by the developers to exhibit that the jet can be maintained more efficiently by the use of wireless communications. Gabriel said that the technologies would be related to the transportation, distribution and acquisition of equipments needed to repair equipment or enable a mission to proceed. These technologies put together in a military context can add efficiency, maneuverability, and flexibility to U.S. forces.
