- Abstract:
A conclusion to the book, Contextualizing Transition: Interviews with Contemporary Russian Writers & Critics, is presented. It assesses the works by Russian authors Vladimir Sorokin and Victor Erofeev. Their writings acquired their creative impulse from their interest in Moscow conceptualist art and sots art. Their inquiry into absolutism goes beyond an analysis of the totalitarian ideology of Socialist Realism. Despite the fascination of the two authors with the same issues, they address these problems quite differently. The interest of Sorokin lies in exploring the limits of the totalitarian and oppressive nature of expression. Erofeev, on the other hand, is slightly less burdened by the impossibility of abandoning the oppressiveness of discursive meaning.
