      The article presents information on the social history of Bolivia since 1500 B.C. In 1500 B.C., Tiahuanaco culture settled near Lake Titicaca, followed by the Mollos, near what is now La Paz, Bolivia. In 1809, Bolivia declared independence from Spain. Sixteen years later, the Republic of Bolivia became an independent nation. Since independence in 1992, Bolivia has experienced 188 changes in its government. In 2003, police started an unsuccessful revolt in an attempt to overthrow the government of President Sánchez de Lozada.
