- Abstract:
This article provides information on U.S. inventor and printer Benjamin Franklin. In 1730, Franklin became the official printer for Pennsylvania. His 1739 20-shilling note for the colonial government employed an anticounterfeit device called nature print. The process involved using raised impressions of patterns cast from actual leaves. As postmaster, Franklin invented an odometer that, when attached to a carriage, calculated the distance traveled by counting wheel rotations.
