      This article features children's book author Ruth Manning-Sanders. She began her writing career as a poet and adult novelist. She started writing children's books after her husband's death in 1952, publishing sixty titles during that time. She is known for her stories of circus life, which reflect her own experience as a circus worker. She also retold fairy tales and wrote a series of books with titles beginning A Book of. The subjects for the series included dragons, wizards, trolls, and other supernatural creatures.
