    • Abstract:
This article profiles singer and songwriter Raffi (Raffi Cavoukian) of Cairo, Egypt. In the early years of his career, he played mostly folk songs for adults. He eventually became interested in music for children through the influence of his wife, a kindergarten teacher who had been his high school sweetheart. Concerned with the lack of quality music for children, he began to write songs and perform for a younger audience. He soon produced and distributed his first recording, Singable Songs for the Very Young (1976), which was an immediate success. Since that time, he has produced and sold millions of record albums, performed in hundreds of sold-out concerts, and had concert videos broadcast on the Disney Channel.
