      This article provides information on the literary works of author Mildred Lee. Lee grew up in small towns across the Southern U.S. and began writing as a young child. She notes that her characters come from the real people she knows as well as from her own imagination. The Rock and the Willow (1963) received the 1964 Child Study Association Children's Book Award.
