    • Abstract:
Using the chilling effect research as a framework, this study aimed to show the significance binge drinking could play in suppressing grievances in both romantic and close platonic relationships (n = 317). Results demonstrated the association between binge drinking and chilling effects, although this link was only seen in friendships. Chilling effects were found to be related to low partner commitment levels, chilling effects due to regrettable incidents following binge drinking were stronger in platonic than romantic relationships, and males and females did not differ in their chilling responses.
