    • Abstract:
The article presents information on the role of the United Nations (UN) sixty years after its formation in 1945. Today, the UN, which has 191 member states, faces huge challenges. Wars in Sudan, Iraq, and elsewhere are taking the lives of innocent civilians. Terrorist attacks are on the rise. Today, the world relies more than ever on the UN's humanitarian aid and peace-keeping efforts. The rate of global poverty is higher than ever. But critics are asking whether the UN can truly keep peace between nations and limit human suffering. Scandals have raised additional concerns about the need to reform the UN.
