The article presents information on the role of light bulbs in helping people who suffer from seasonal affective disorder. According to American Psychiatric Association estimates, up to 20 percent of the population suffers from the more serious seasonal affective disorder (SAD). A form of depression, its symptoms include difficulty waking up, all-day fatigue, carbohydrate cravings and weight gain. Treatment typically involves 30 minutes of exposure to a large, diffuse, bright light each morning. The lights, which look like big, flat, television-size lamps, seem to work as well as antidepressants.
