    • Abstract:
The article states that the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has discovered that certain transplant claims paid under the inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) were overpaid, and has directed fiscal intermediaries to make adjustments for these overpaid claims by December 31, 2005. The claims processed incorrectly were those with acquisition charges related to heart, liver, intestine, lung, and pancreas transplants. The error occurred as acquisition charges were being passed with all other charges on the claims to the IPPS Pricer and were, therefore, used in calculating the outlier.
