- Abstract:
The devastating wildfires in the Los Angeles region are fueled by the Santa Ana winds, which blow from the deserts of interior California and Nevada towards the Pacific Ocean. These fast-moving, dry, and warm winds can quickly turn a small spark into a large blaze that is challenging for firefighters to contain. The current fires have been exacerbated by two rainy years followed by a hot summer and lack of rain, leading to dry vegetation that serves as fuel for the wildfires. Winds gusting up to 60 miles per hour are expected to continue, posing a significant risk of further fire spread. [Extracted from the article]
