- Abstract:
The junta in Myanmar is pressuring overseas workers to transfer at least 25% of their salaries to their families through official banking channels. Failure to comply may result in fines, suspension from submitting demand letters, and even being banned from exiting the country for employment. The Ministry of Labour has issued warnings and penalties to nearly 300 employment agencies for non-compliance with the mandatory remittance regulation. Despite these measures, over 1,000 workers are still being sent abroad for employment each month by the 600 registered Private Overseas Employment Agencies. [Extracted from the article]
